I find this one comment interesting:

"There were a number of entrants for the program, and many street cars. For owners and drivers in the street class, this was a positive twist to a story that all too often revolved around race cars."

The CDRA has never only been about race cars. The street cars have not been participating, for whatever reason. Very frequently there would be a lot of cars show up for the test and tune portion and then not participate in the race program. I am very glad that they are now.

The ONLY difference between the classes at the track is the times you are running.
you make valid points. this is my opinion from looking at everything, listening to both sides and thinking about it for myself:

i think that there has, in the past, been some bias towards the faster classes. it could be argued that's due to the turn out but then one would have to ask if the cdra have done what they can to cater equally to all- to make it attractive for slower/predominantly street classes to turn out. i think that for some time, the answer was no.

i think that there have definitely been times where the cdra did not do everything they could have and should have done for the street cars (or slower classes, however its defined). also, i think that for some time, the real stories at the track revolved around the faster classes. to be completely fair, this is even true among street cars, and there's a risk that only the stories of the fastest get told. in reality, for true enthusiasts, i would think that people want to know about everything that's going on, across the board.

as you point out in your story, you progressed a long way to get to where you are now. stories like that should get told. traditionally, that wouldnt be the story at the track- even though i'd say its actually a key part of what racing is about: the improvement of man and machine. thats the story i believe needs to be told though, and i think the current state of affairs at the track and the cdra's stance are more friendly and productive toward it now than they have been in some time. thats where i was coming from.
