Soooo thinking I'd give the new G owner - whoever they are- a head start I picked up a new set of rear tires. I was going to hold off on mounting them but when I saw the condition and had the time, I figured I'd do it this weekend.
As noted in my for sale thread I always go to Kahn at Emerald K Tires for my tire mounting/balancing needs. Kahn personally takes care of me...very cool guy, knows what he's doing, uses his judgment/experience to do whats best. Just what I need for the G.
Anyway, I was going to do a full writeup on this .. but didn't take all the pics I should have. If you've never seen it done before though, you'll get the idea...

then balancing. the balancer spins the wheel, sees vibration and calculates the amount and placement of weights necessary to cancel the vibration. you can see that on the inner/outer display

also in the process, not pictured, is that the valve stem must be removed. it contains the tire pressure monitoring sensor. it is then reinstalled into the new tire after the tire is temporarily mounted (before its inflated). the sensor can be damaged if you forget about it. its also important to remember which sensor goes on which wheel - the car will remember that and will trigger a low tire pressure warning light if it cant find the sensor where it last was...
