Nissan's been teasing with glimpses of the new Z and hacked up prototypes on the Ring, but until today we've had nothing substantial. Now that's changed though. It appears that a pic of the new Z has leaked to the internet...
The pic is consistent with everything known about the car so far. Ordinarily you've got to take such a pic with a grain of salt, but when the leaked image is consistent with both official teasers and internal information, it must be very close, if not exact.
Looking at the image, the roofline looks interesting and is perhaps a cue to the 280Z of yesterday. As far as the hardware goes, I expect the Z to carry a 3.7L or 3.8L V6 engine tuned to about 350hp, give or take. The overall car is at least a few inches shorter, so expect the car to be lighter as well as more powerful. The suspension will likely carry the platform revisions as seen in the G37. So we're looking at improvements to braking and handling response. The interior is said to include a second, basic multi function readout among the primary gauges, in addition to another digital readout as the 350Z had in its center stack- giving two customizable, digital character-gauge readouts. With the interior quality likely to borrow parts from other Nissans being built in Tochigi (think: new Murano or Maxima if not G37), it appears that Nissan has another hit in the works. Let me rephrase that: how does 13.0 in the 1/4, near 8:10 on the Ring, and a $29k MSRP sound? That just might be what we have on our hands.
As of now, the new Z is slated to be unveiled this November at the LA Auto Show. Stay tuned for updates as they come.
