I'll say it right now: Streetseen will be covering the arrival of the new Nissan GT-R in great detail. This car will be epic. You heard it here first.

<img src="http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t193/streetseen/Nissan_GTR/LB_Nissan_GT-R_116409i.jpg" />

...and although this isn't a porn site, I must bring you these images- straight from what is arguably the world's most challenging and demand race track. Yes, I'm referring to the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N%C3%BCrburgring">Nuerburgring</a>. In Nordschleife configuration, the "green hell" features 40 right turns and 33 left turns in such a setup that even the fastest street cars (think 911 turbo, carrera gt, etc) take over seven and a half minutes to complete. Apparently, the GT-R is not be far off that pace - in stock configuration. Click (more) for StreetSeen's first official scoop on the new Godzilla.

<img src="http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t193/streetseen/Nissan_GTR/LB_Nissan_GT-R_116411i.jpg" />

<img src="http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t193/streetseen/Nissan_GTR/LB_Nissan_GT-R_116410i.jpg" />

Although this is the first time the car's been on StreetSeen, it's not the first time the car's been out in the wild. Over the past few years, Nissan has been quietly testing various prototypes while developing the car for its Fall of 2007 release... and we at StreetSeen have been following it all along.

<img src="http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t193/streetseen/Nissan_GTR/DSCF0405.jpg" />

(Above, street spotting)

(Below - it's main spottings have been in its natural habitat, the track - most often chasing, or being chased by, its target-the 997 Porsche 911)

<img src="http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t193/streetseen/Nissan_GTR/gtr-3.jpg" />

<img src="http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t193/streetseen/Nissan_GTR/gtr-2.jpg" />

<img src="http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t193/streetseen/Nissan_GTR/gtr.jpg" />

We expect the car to carry a 3.7L Twin Turbo variant of Nissan's VQ37VHR. We expect the engine to output about 450hp and the car to weigh in the 3500lbs range.

<img src="http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t193/streetseen/Nissan_GTR/untitledto1.jpg" />

Look for 6pot front/4pot rear 2pc cross drilled Brembo manufactured brakes under 20 inch stock wheels wrapped with Bridgestone's most advanced Potenza street tires. Nissan's ATTESA advanced all wheel drive system will also be fitted, along with active rear steering. For the first time, the GT-R will also feature an optional automatic transmission. As usual, expect a full array of telemetry and electronic aids and monitoring equipment.

<img src="http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t193/streetseen/Nissan_GTR/3-apr19-nissan-skyline.jpg" height="427" width="640" />

Expect the car to be based on a modified version of the FM platform as used in the 2007 G, 350z, M, and FX with said modifications all being about one word: performance. Out the box, we expect this car to rival its target, the $120,000 Porsche 911. That places it well above other notable sports cars such as the BMW M3 and even C6 Corvette. Because it's the GT-R though, expect every tuner on Earth to be working on modifications for the car. And when tuned I don't think I need to explain what you should expect.
<img src="http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t193/streetseen/Nissan_GTR/gtr-5.jpg" />

And yes, for the first time, the car will be for sale in the United States, with sales starting next Spring. We expect pricing to be base near $60,000 in the US, and exceed $80,000 in the USVI- not counting dealer markup.* Although Nissan isn't releasing any information about this car until this October's Tokyo Motor Show, you can count on StreetSeen to keep you updated.

FYI - This new car is not a Skyline.

The GT-R was a variant of the Skyline range of cars up to the R34 series.
There was always more than one kind of Skyline. In the R34 generation for instance, there was a GT-ST, GT-T, and more. Not all were twin turbo rb26 powered killing machines with all wheel drive. Some had less than 200hp.

After the R34 series of Skylines, the GT-R became independent of the Skyline product line. The 'new' Skylines since then were the 250GT and 350GT- the higher end of which was- and still is- sold in the United States as the Infiniti G35 Sedan and Coupe. [Fun Fact: in addition to the 250GT, there was also a Skyline 350GT-8 in Japan, which was a sedan that featured a continuously variable transmission which in manual mode gave 8 paddle-selected gears, giving it its name]

The skyline generation after the R34 is known as the V35. look under the hood of any Infiniti g35 and you will see this designation. Production of the V35 series Skylines, whether made for the US or Japan, is handled at Nissan's Tochigi plant in Japan. Another point worth mentioning here is that there are no product-level differences between the Nissan Skyline 350GT and the Infiniti G35. The only real differences are legal ones, ie steering wheel on a different side of the car, amber lights, etc. The engine, transmission, suspension, and other related parts used are all the same for both cars. For the most part, both cars perform identically and take identical mods so long as the steering column doesnt interfere (which is only an issue on a few usdm or jdm sourced forced-induction kits).

The upcoming Nissan GT-R will be sold in the US as the Nissan GT-R. No one knows if its chassis code will be R35 although my guess is that it will be.

So in 2008, nissan will have the Nissan Skyline (Infiniti G35 here), Nissan GT-R (Nissan GT-R here), and Nissan Fairlady Z (Nissan 350Z here) all as seperate cars. Although there will be some similarities (especially between the G and Z), there will be many differences (especially between the GT-R and the other two). And as you already know, although the G and Z are built to perform, they are not GT-Rs.

yeah it will hurt to sell it. but does it make sense to keep it?

its not really just a matter of getting into something new- ive been offered good amounts of money for my car and refuse to sell. i always wanted a gt-r. i always knew i was going to learn on the g. in the last couple years ive done just that. later this year ill learn one last thing on it - racing.

i want to try my hand at building a car that can perform. with my goals i know that although the g is a great car, that's not what it was really setup for. so although it could be setup- with the gt-r coming, that's the better way to go.

the only thing that might change my mind is this:
http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/8559/96599img173712242lomm4.jpg

but i dont think that 500hp/3000lbs will be 'enough'...although carbon brakes are tempting (i hope someone offers them for the gtr)...anyway as i said its time to focus on performance; i could care less what girls think of how cute it is...

Holy Crap! Quick Question- was the M5 in "M" mode here?

Tekknikal
04-22-2007, 07:50 PM
i dont know but i would assume so. if the gt-r is as fast as claimed, the car will be very quick around tracks- probably 30 seconds faster per lap (~8min lap) vs the m5, on the ring... and that per-lap-difference will probably widen on laps 2,3,4, etc. as the gt-r is being built to take the punishment, whereas the m5 may experience brake fade, etc.

to be clear the m5 is a great car...a family sedan that's very, very fast.... but based on what is being shown to date, the gt-r will be a beast.

a UK 350z crew went to the ring.
lookie what they saw:

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r284/az30/gtr/gtr14.jpg

their comments:

There were 4 GT-R's on the day, one of them blew its turbo's and was whisked away into the lockup they had. The GTR's were absolutely killing the Porsche pace car that they were testing with on the day. Everyone who saw the car commented on its performance, I'd expect shockingly quick times at the ring!

One of our guys got very close to the car, to look under the bonnet, but the japanese fellas from Nissan werent having any of it!

We tried our best!

anyway the brakes are sick :sick:

better cockpit shot. the tach goes to 8k rpms with a lcd following that.
its unclear if that means the redline goes into the LCD zone, or if the redline is lower and the lcd is used for other purposes (more likely)
regardless, its a very cool arrangement.

in these two shots above you can see the rotors are 2pc units and the brakes are brembo 6 pot GT spec... tires are bridgestone potenza RE070, which are semi-race tires. The 070 treadwear is about 140, but these tires are superior to the RE050A Pole Position tires, despite having a similar treadwear rating. (note the RE050A PP tires are really Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 competitors whereas the RE070s are more like Michelin Pilot Sport Cup competitors). These tires are being manufactured specifically for the GT-R. Overall, this combination of tire/brake is unrivaled in class. note that you can also see the side vents for the engine bay to help dissipate heat.

btw the man in the cream & pink suit above is the head designer for the GT-R, Shiro Nakamura
