A lot went into the design of this sub. We wanted an SPL sub without the drawbacks that some of the others encounter.

We had an idea, it was a sub with sick amounts of magnetic force but with a large gap
and cooling. This is something you don't see from other companies. But why would we be different? The answer is less coil failures and less re-cones. The only drawback (if it is one) you need a 73lbs motor to get the job done. Was it worth it? Yes it was!
The end result is a sub that has extreme amounts of output for the SPL lanes but reliable enough for a high-powered daily system.

When it was all done we ended up with a 73lbs triple stacked 1" slug, FEA optimized monster. We use a 8-layer flat wound 3" coil. Its available is D1ohm or D2ohm configurations. We also use upgraded multiple progressive spiders, upgraded cones, surround, lead wire, a cast basket and push terminals.

Key Features
• Extremely rigid non-pressed paper cone assembly
• Multilayered polymer foam surround
• Polypropylene dust cover with embossed DC logo
• 8”OD semi cup progressive roll spiders
• Extra heavy duty interweaved tinsel lead wire
• Cast aluminum black frame
• FEA analyzed and optimized motor assembly – Fully CNC machined
• Rubber mounting gasket
• Chrome spring loaded push terminals
• Dual 1ohm or 2 ohm 3” 8 Layer Hi-temp Aluminum voice coil wound on black anodized voice coil former

A true heavy weight by all accounts, the new SSA Zcon is absolutely a beast. After 3 years of development, to answer the demand from the mega power fanatics and high output crowd, the massive SSA Zcon is finally here. Incorporating an FEA optimized motor with a spiral CNC-machined solid pole piece, the Zcon has the technology and cooling to take some serious abuse with the ability to step up the cabin pressure to brutal levels.

Bringing to market our biggest motor ever, the Zcon has the motor strength for accurate cone control showing that this is not a one note wonder. The Zcon is at home in a moderate daily driver system as it is in a mega power competition system. Five sandwiched spiders and a large 3" - 8 layer aluminum coil, means the Zcon can handle the heaviest of hands on the volume knob for years to come. Right from the start, the Zcon is already in the top offerings on the market for the high end, big output daily driver sub woofers. You can be proud to own a SSA Zcon, as with the entire SSA speaker line up, it is designed, engineered, machined and built here in the USA.

The Mayhem Series of subwoofer utilizes many technological advances to create the toughest daily driving sub on the market. Our engineers have spent hundreds of hours analyzing the various failure modes of other drivers and producing new technologies and solutions to prevent these problems. Starting with our patent pending Helicool motor system, air is forced through axial cooling channels each time the cone moves. This positive displacement of air over the coil means increased thermal capacity and power handling. Using our proprietary suspension assembly techniques, we laminate multiple progressive spiders together for exceptional durability. Our specially formulated adhesives and adhesive agents have been specifically designed to handle high heat and mechanical stresses of 2500+Watts of power. The 30mm of Xmax ensures extreme linear ability and monsterous deep bass while the high motor force ensures plenty of skull cracking upper bass as well.

The Mayhem Series is the ultimate in bass performance.

The HDC3 series is the product of over two years of development and hundreds of hours of testing real prototypes in real boxes and real cars. The new HDC3 series has been a long time coming; you can’t simply buy some off the shelf parts, throw in some chrome; that’s not good enough, that’s what other companies do. Anybody can add some bling, make up some ridiculous claims only a noob would believe, publish a fancy web page with glossy pictures, throw in some fantastic sounding specifications the marketing department loves, raise the prices and hope you’re stupid enough to line their pockets with your hard earned money. Actually that philosophy works; many companies swear by it.The HDC3 is a powerful new design with increased cooling, more throw, stronger cone and can be ordered with a choice of several suspensions and coil options allowing you to customize the HDC3 for your particular application be it either great sounding street beating or all out gut wrenching SPL.The Standard HDC3 comes with your choice of dual 1 or dual 2 ohm four layer high performance copper coils, a vented extended pole piece with flared ends for increased cooling and less noise. The Standard HDC3 is optimized for the best combination of great sounding loud Everyday Street beating. for those who want an all out SPL machine flat wound Aluminum wire coils designed for maximum power handling and SPL applications are available as a low cost option.A high performance subwoofer requires a strong cone/surround capable of withstanding the huge motor forces applied without folding or separating from the coil former. It also must be light enough to not act as an inefficient power robbing, suspension killing glob of heavy mass requiring outrageous wasted power to set in motion. The HDC3 cone assembly is the perfect combination of weight, strength and profile combined with a high strength multi layer high excursion foam surround glued and double stitched for additional strength.
HDC3 SUSPENSION

Suspension systems are generally the weakest link in the chain of parts comprising a subwoofer design and often are the primary failure mode. Over time and especially with high power applications the spider or spiders, if the suspension has more than one or two, begin to sag and as a consequence the suspension can no longer control the coil movement which in turn makes the sub sound bad, the coil to rub and electrical shorts in the coil windings, with the resultant black smoke and nasty smell signifying the destruction of your subwoofer and the loss of your hard earned dollars. Did I mention that when spiders start sagging the TS specs so proudly listed on your new subwoofer bear little resemblance to the TS specs of your subwoofer when the suspension wears out?Suspension, especially in high power application, fail from glue joint failures at the spider/basket landing glue joint, the spider/coil former attachment surface area and the cone/coil former attachment surface. These last two glue joints are often referred to as the “triple” joint. WHY DO THESE GLUE JOINTS FAIL? It usually comes down to MONEY. Most manufacturers build the cheapest way possible and the cheapest and most practical method of making these joints is by MACHINE with the cheapest glues available. MACHINE gluing of these joints usually have no provisions for ascertaining proper penetration and saturation of glue at the joint area. Nor does the assembly method allow for the use of reinforcement of the joint with additional material. Under NORMAL usage MACHINE gluing and standard assembly methods are adequate. Unfortunately many of us push our systems to the limit and then some.We at Audioque are not satisfied with the NORM. We spare no expense and do everything we possibly can to prevent suspension failures. We use multiple spider configurations engineered and designed to maintain rigidity. We hand glue critical glue joints with high quality glues and provide additional reinforcement structures to the suspension components.
HDC3 DIRECT CONNECT LEAD WIRES=NO LEAD SLAP

High excursion subwoofers require a lead wire system that doesn’t flop all over the place or break. We use the direct connect system (no terminals) because it works the best. With our direct connect system you get no annoying lead slap noise, no ripped or holes burnt in the spiders and no flimsy lead in wires coming out of the cone to break or short out and burn into. You get no cheap terminals to break off or come loose. You do get 12 gauge lead wire easily connected by wire nuts or crimp connectors. You can also twist and tape the connections if you’re in a hurry. We have spared no expense to give you the best subwoofer value on the market today. We have sourced our parts and manufacturing with exacting standards for quality, durability and performance. In the process we regrettably have had to leave some of our former American partners to stay competitive with today’s market place. Our production costs have been brought in line with our competition but our operating margins remain the same. We have done what we consider unique in this business; we have shared our savings in production costs with our customers.Note: Parameters taken of random single sampling of NIB subwoofers with no pre-break-in. Parameters for 8-layer flat wound aluminum voice coils only. No multiple samples averaged.

The SMD Signature Series of subwoofers comes from working with Steve Meade and his monster installs for close to a decade. Seeing the progression of subwoofer and amplifier technology we have put pen to paper and designed several new technologies to help push things to the next level. Starting with the obvious, the motor, it is a Super Gauss dual flux path motor with incredible motor strength not before possible from a ferrite motor structure. Integrating our 4” EMB coil topology to the system provides electro-mechanical braking to linearize flux. Having all of this motor force and linearity are no good if you can’t handle power thermally. Every SMD produced spends a significant amount of time on one of our 4 axis CNCs machining the Dyna cool system into the internal parts of the motor structure. Utilizing cooling channels and specific paths in both the gap plates and pole piece we can extend the thermal capacity of the sub out to 3500W RMS in its normal range of musical operation. Keeping it mechanically under control is a 7 spider Tri-point suspension system with integrated lead wires capable of handling tremendous current.

All of these technologies culminate in the pinnacle of daily driving subwoofer performance. Working in ported enclosures much smaller than the average sub, you can get displacement never before possible in tiny spaces, often allowing you to step up to the next size driver for even more output capability.

After 5 years of work the Warden is finally here! The newly coming Warden is the next generation of all out SPL monsters – forget everything you’ve seen until this point. The Warden is the first True SPL subwoofer on the market that boost a steel top plate for maximum transfer of magnetic flux from the neodymium magnets to the gap which in turn equals more magnetic force to drive the cone to Extreme SPL levels. These six neodymium magnets act as one through one common top plate. Other subwoofers on the market have an aluminum top plate, which keeps the columns separated; this causes each column to independently transfer magnetic flux. This results in less SPL because the spaces between the columns do not transfer flux. For example if the Warden is say 500 horsepower in the gap, that power is constant, as the transfer of flux surrounds the coil and pushes and pulls on it with one authority. If the other unit was 500 horsepower too it would only be constant in the locations where the columns are located, the space between the two would be zero force, and the end result is less SPL.

The Warden has been lurking in the shadows for years, the rumors and myths that surround this driver have been circulating the internet for what seems like ages, but it’s finally here and we consider this to be our proudest accomplishment to date.

It depends where you go. Because there only too sites that I know of sell Re audio Mt. www.sonicelectronix.com or www.woofersetc.com they go for $799.99 Right now sonicelectronix don't have any right now but again that's my preference It doesn't have yours u can buy what ever suits ur budget. But at the time sonicelectronix had them, u could make them offer and buy at ur talk down price.

But jesse talking on one side of his mouth ask he how much a kicker solobabric X cost. It just around the Mt's. So yea:cool:

Y'all miss the point the thread is about subs u don't see regularly. That's what I'm saying. U all talking about subs people see all the time regularly. again u don't have to buy does series of subs. what I am showing is the best of the best from each company. SSA sub the I con cost little over a $100. so yea buy what suits your budget. And no I don't really rate jl audio like that. Simply they suck. Jl audio is a SQ sub there not for Spl. They not like kicker or mtx which are built to SQ/SPL.

Older model Db drive Platinum series 12" sub,on a mtx 1501d amp.The box was the right specs for the sub.It lasted one week, before i blew the spider off of the coil, for the sub.I drive like 120 miles a day total,so i play my system hard for a long time.Mtx1501d specs is 500w in 4,1000w in 2..Db drive plw12d4 (4 ohm per coil)1000w rms,2000 peak.:dunno: Am running a md sound model MD12-12175 subwoofer ,with no problem right now.800w rms 1800w peak..2 ohm per coil

^^^^Now I see the problem u had. platinum series had defects in them that's why db stop make them. That's why it blew, the cone was very weak. I remember the platinum series they had paper cone in them but it was to weak so when u start to play them for long periods it starts to rip and then they blew. the Platinum series weren't built that great. When I tell u tell me ur problem that's what expect to here So I can figure out your problem and be able to say what it is. Always Remember this when u buy a new sub allow some time for the sub to break in, Because if u don't u can blow sub like what happen with your old platinum series sub.

In competition with the one you have use to get so hot they it burned out the cone and even catch fire. It doesn't happen with the WDX it's stronger.
