Which is best overquare engine vs undersquare with each engine being the same displacement? Advantages and disadvantages.
Which do you prefer and why?

The advantages of an oversquare motor is that u can make more power because of the larger strokes, more air more power, the default really is that an oversqaure is more voulnerable to detonation rather than an undersquare motor cause of the time it takes for the flame to reach the entire bore, which therefore means slower burn rate = being more prone to detonation. But that's not a problem until higher rpm's, the larger the valves are the harder they are to control. Hope that info helps somehow.

I believe you got it mixed up an oversquare motor the bore is greater than the stroke. Undersquare motor the stroke is greater than the bore.

:+1:.......I prefer stroker motors.

Again I have a rotary .. No block to bore .. .20 over . 40 over.. No valves.. cams an lifters.. What's a stroker motor ..?? Lmao.. Jokes .. Nah man ..
I would like to hear more ppl chime in on this one ..

i like my powerbands wide and rpms high
i dont really care about big torque numbers on an absolute basis
my two favorite cars.. one a vr38 @ 4.0l, 8.5k bored only, the other a 1lrgue @ 9.5k stock
both have larger bore than stroke. but im an rpm whore.

I prefer Oversquare
1. Higher RPM potential means you can flow more CFM which equals more hp.
a. You can make up for the lack of torque with the proper gear ratio.
b It's all about the acceleration.
2. Usually has bigger valves which flow more air and get better VE which reinforces point 1.
3. Fun to drive.
