Thanks for the vid Mr Cat, that is one impressive Camaro. As can be seen it is turbocharged, which works well for this style of event as you can turn down the boost for the street and turn it up for the track.
That was taken at Drag week 2007 as can be seen in the video (duh). The rules for Drag Week are simple. The car has to be street legal, registered, and insured. It must be driven from track to track with no outside assistance other than from other competitors. If the car goes on a trailer or truck it is disqualified. You have to follow a set route and there are checkpoints along the way which you must pass. You may tow a small trailer to carry spare parts, slicks, fuel. At the track you can switch to slicks and run race gas, so I doubt the 7 second runs were made on pump gas. A lot of cars here do the same thing, run regular or premium on the street, then turn up the boost and run race gas at the track.
It sounds like a blast and a real test of your car.
There is also an event called the Pump Gas Drags where you do have to run 93 octane. I believe they actually drain the fuel tank of all the cars and fill them with 93 at the track for that event.

thanks but here the thing you guys have to think about is this these motors are bullit in such away that there is equal amounts of cubic inch to power adder what these creates is a 50/50 split in this case a boosted combo

its not just the v8! its the displacedment of the motor. the bigger it is the more power that can be extracted.
