View Full Version : Caribbean Bike Fest Race Weekend

You've heard the talk, you've heard the rumors, you've seen the hype. Now for the truth. This weekend the Caribbean Bikers Association is indeed putting on an event- the King of the Caribbean Drag Races- right here at the St Croix Race Track. The event will be covered in exclusive StreetSeen style. Haven't gotten your fix of racing recently? That will be addressed this weekend.
Amid the high anticipation, there's been some misinformation regarding this event though, so let's take a moment to review some details. Note this info has been provided directly by the event organizer:
Friday
The track will open on Friday at 6PM
Cost of admission is $5 for adults, $2 for kids.
Test & Tune Only cost is $20 but will not have track priority.
Racing/Program Registration cost is $60 and includes two drinks, not food.
Program registration will close at 7PM!
If you haven't registered yet, you should be at the track when the gates open at 6PM. You will only have until 7PM to register.
There will be three classes for cars:
-Street
-Pro
-Super Pro
While a $10,000 payout has been headlined, this prize money will actually be split among the classes for both bikes and cars:
Cars
Street Class: $1,000
Pro Class: $2,00
Super Pro Class: $2,500
Bikes
600cc: $1000
750cc: $1000
liter+ $3000 of total payouts distributed among the top eight
Because participation is expected to be high, the races will be split onto two days: Friday and Sunday. On Friday, there will be a time trial/qualifications period followed by round one of eliminations. This will cut the field by half. The balance of racing will then continue on Sunday. I've been told by the CDRA, who is helping to organize the layout of the racing, that there will likely be a limited buyback opportunity on Sunday.
All winners at the track Friday will have space allocated for them at the car show on Saturday. This is strictly optional. Entry will be discounted such that only admission must be paid, the car will be displayed for free but will not be judged. See below.
Saturday
Everyone exhibiting their car (including those who win on Friday and elect to do so) will be required to bring their cars to the show by 10:30AM at the latest.
Car Show Gates open Saturday at Noon.
General admission cost is $35 in advance, $45 at the gate
Friday's round one winners will have discounted entry of $25 if they display their car (FREE)
Covered seats cost $55 in advance, $65 at the gate
VIP tickets are $125
Kids entry is $5
Bonus info: Awards are expected to start at 6-7PM.
Freddie McGregor and Tarrus Riley will NOT be showing.
Sunday
Sunday morning there will be a ride out for bikers and car show people.
This is NOT StreetSeen affiliated.
Basic attendance cost is free for St Croix residents, with poker participation costing $20.
Participants need to be at Sunny isles at 9AM to attend.
The ride out will actually be a poker run. It will be split between cars and bikes, which will roll separately.
Both will have police escort. Both will likely stick to routes near areas with people. (Centerline road is one route planned)
Update - I am not sure if this is still happening due to the fact that the schedule change on Friday has meant that all eliminations will occur on Sunday.
Meanwhile, racers will be able to get into the track early:
Gates will open for racers Sunday morning at 8AM to permit early testing/tuning.
The ride out is expected to end by 1:30PM at which time everyone will head to the track... (see update above)
The track opens at 2PM for spectators.
General admission cost is $15 in advance, $20 at the gate
Kids are $5
Note that for all racing, on all days, new safety rules will be enforced:
These rules require a helmet and safety jacket for cars. Bikers will be required to have a helmet, safety jacket, and pants. There will be a vendor there who will rent them. Pricing TBD. From the event organizer, "Safety First". This is FIRM.
Note that video recording will be strictly prohibited.
Note that tickets can be picked up in advance at the following locations:
-STX: Urban Threadz, Platinum Men's Wear, Riddims, Strictly the Best
-STT: Urban Threadz, Fashion Source
Again, stay tuned to this thread for the latest information...

As far as I know NHRA calls for protective jackets at 10.99 and faster so yes (on the moo). On the other hand, fire is a terrible way to go.
Yet they mention nothing about driveshaft loops, scattershields, overflow bottles, whether cars will go through tech......
I'm out anyway with the clutch situation (at least it lasted long enough to get home and up our hill). Maybe I'll try substituting the Landy and at least try in street eliminations. Good luck to everybody, I will be down to at least spectate for some of it.
Michelle's grandmother passed away at 102 years of age yesterday (peacefully in her sleep and lucid until the last day, fortunately) so she might be on the silver bird to the states this weekend.
Edit: On second thought, the guys running this are more bike people as far as I know which might be where the jacket and pants requirement comes from. In that case it makes more sense.

sorry for your family's loss.
like you, i wondered if he was only talking about bikers. when i asked to confirm it, he was very clear and specifically said that it would apply to all cars. in your case, if you want to take the land rover down, you will have to wear helmet, jacket, pants. if you don't have the gear you will have to rent it or you won't be allowed to go. still waiting on what the cost to rent will be.

Thank you for the sympathy Tekk.
Good on the clarification. Fortunately, we have a helmet and a one piece suit (jumpsuit so all in one jacket and pants). We got the helmet after seeing the black Starion going through the fence a couple of years ago, decided to not use the loaner helmets anymore. Romeo with the First Blood Camaro gave us his old suit when he got a new one.

In NHRA rules only people that use flame resistant gear and shoes are people that are running less that 10.99 anybody running 11.00 and above should be exempt from this tradgic decision....
to tekk you should speak to the idiot that is trying to make people wear fireproof gear for low time cars it just makes no sense. people still have gas tanks under their cars to do these times no fuel cell and pump gas not even race gas witch is more combustible. im serious though tekk these people are trying to milk every last drop of you guys like street rx7 said. trust me if they enforce this B.S. a lot of people that dont have these gears will back out and not race. the only people you need to enforce proper gear to at ALL TIMES is people that are racing bikes. they go 100+ MPH on a bike if they fall its a done deal if they dont have proper gear.

New info/revisions. Direct from the event organizer...
-Jacket/pants rule update:
Car drivers will be required to wear helmet + jacket.. but not pants. No explanation on why there was a change, I assume this policy was misstated. That said, the event organizer is (very) adamant about this. As mentioned, if you do not have these items, you will be required to rent them. There will be a vendor on location for that. This will apply to all cars. For bikes, there's been no change and helmet+jacket+pants are required. Again, a vendor will be available for those that do not have the required equipment. No info on pricing. It sounds to me that it will be up to the vendor.
- Friday first round winners will have a discounted opportunity to attend the car show on Saturday:
The display spot will be free, however the entry will not be judged.
General admission cost will be $25 as opposed to $35 (displaying the car is required)
-The total payout for cars will be:
Street Class: $1,000
Pro Class: $2,000
Super Pro Class: $2,500
-Ride out/Poker run cost will be free for STX cars to attend. Poker entry will cost $20.
-The track will open Sunday at 8AM.
-Video recording will be strictly prohibited.
The first post in this thread has already been updated.

A few things need to be made clear:
#1 These rules are not mine, they were created by the event organizer. I have nothing to do with them other than to relay them to everyone here. To that end, I've gone through a lot of work to ensure the accuracy and clarity of all info before I post it.
#2 From what little I've seen, I personally don't think that money is the motivating factor behind the safety rules. I am glad that the pants rule will not apply as I don't personally think fire pants are needed- especially in the street class. But regardless of what I personally think, I don't set the rules. I relay them. See #1.
#3 The event organizer will be selling a full video/DVD of the weekend. To protect his interests, he's decided to prohibit all video recording at the track. While an agreement has been reached where StreetSeen will be permitted to cover this event in line with prior events, and I understand his business motives, I disagree with the policy. I believe that everyone should be allowed to record video at the track. This is the official stance of StreetSeen. Since there is discussion that this event may be representative of the future of the track, my views have been expressed to both the event organizer and to the CDRA. Since offline discussion has already alluded to it, I have also taken the position that I will not be editing or otherwise censoring any track videos posted on StreetSeen by any members. Regardless, I do not set the rules for the event, nor do I decide how the track is managed. I do however, set the rules here and set my own requirements.
If you feel as I do, show your support and express your views to the event organizer as well as the CDRA. Please be as respectful as possible though, the CDRA is doing its best, and the event organizer is attempting to protect his interests. Walking up to them and attacking them will not be productive.

dont take it the wrong way tekk i dont hold you or the CDRA responsible or accountable for anything concerning this event. you have done nothing but an outstanding job and we all understand that you are just relaying the message and doing your very best to keep us informed. for this i thank you. i didnt have any problem with the safety rules but the no video really bothers me. everyone on streetseen knows i take video of everything. so that stipulation bugs the hell out of me, and the first person that tries to take a camera out of my fathers hands i really feel sorry for. with that said, the bull is ready and i plan on doing my very best to represent STX to the fullest....A few things need to be made clear:

Please be as respectful as possible though, the CDRA is doing its best, and the event organizer is attempting to protect his interests. Walking up to them and attacking them will not be productive.
But like you stated in a street event your not required to wear this gear other than a helmet..most 10 sec or better drivers have there own gear even shoes..thats here on island..if someone needs to wear gear then they should be cussing that there are no roll cages if safety is an issue cause believe it or not a jacket won't stop your legs or flames from getting under the jacket> I think its a money scheme...attacking them no your right but tell them to pull out the rule book and prove this...not gona happen street class pro street class are two way different classes..and both have certain regulations to abode by.... either way anyone need a jacket lol let me know..its certified...jsut gottah take out the padding in back elbows and shoulders...

for this i thank you. i didnt have any problem with the safety rules but the no video really bothers me.....
im with you; i didnt post that clarification to direct it specifically at you. im making my role clear because it seems to me that some things may not actually pan out as advertised. for example, although freddie mcgregor is still being advertised, he will not be there. where the difference in whats advertised vs what happens ends, im not sure. i will be checking with all winners to make sure they're paid...
as far as the video recording rule goes, its a major concern. i disagree that the cdra has no say in it. either way, i chose my words intentionally.
will it be enforced? i dont know, but whether its enforced or not is immaterial to me.

what still concerns me is about the jacket. if we have to give it back after we race for someone else to use, im not goin to race.

what kinda bullshit are these people trying to pull.novideo????????????? How about they kiss my lilly white ass........ I always take video of everything.... What possible reason could there be to not allow video? This isnt a fucking strip club, how the hell you gonna have a drag racing event and tell people they cant bring cameras????? What are they gonna take peoples cell phones at the gate???????? Whats next with these people they gonna ask me to piss in a cup too???? The more shit i hear about this event the less i want to attend.......

all I can say is if you know some bike riders well try to use there jackets along with a long sleeve shirt over a wife beater and you should be good just take it off when not running...other than that its bullshit that there really trying to make a buck but then again I'm sure they have no where close to the winning purse so they have to come up with it some how...lol....is it true that its 60 bucks for the whole event on all three days...

for someone not racing, to go to the gates for all events, the cost is:
fri $5 + sat $35 + sun $20 = $60
for someone racing, you pay:
$60 fri + $25 sat + $free sunday = $85
note this assumes that you win on fri and bring your car on saturday.
for someone racing who loses on friday, i'm not sure if sunday is discounted. i would assume that since you aren't racing you'd have to pay:
$60 on fri + $35 on sat + $20 on sun = $115
but im not sure.

yeah I saw him tonight. I'm glad it's back up and running. We have one last race to run;) and yes I got my boost controller fixed. I came really close to my goal last night. Hopefully today I will see the big 10 and my car can retire as the fastest real street car on stx.this should be an interesting day.
