a very cool exercise, but the 2jz is overrated: it is not the ultimate motor for every car.

hmm you know i will step in this one! it's is funny you tell people about making a bold statement and yet you post this one!

first off the 2j can be had for 1500 to 1800, and personally the stock motor has been proven time and again to handle 800hp. all those guys you see spending that money went that route because they can do that. all you really need is a good standalone $800-2300, injectors $450 a set, turbo 800-2000, clutch 800-1700.

you do the math! in my mind it is the ultimate motor to swap if you want serious power. what motor was made in that era or even now that you can compare to the 2jzgte.

oh btw how much did the SL cost you?

off the top of my head, i dont think any porsche turbo/gt guys, gallardo owners, viper owners, r32-35 gtr owners, c6 corvette owners, or recent mustang cobra/shelby owners will be putting in 2jzs to make their cars perform better. thats off the top of my head and considering drag racing only.

dont get me wrong, the 2jz is nothing short of an awesome engine- i know this first hand! im just saying its not the ultimate motor for every car.

the devil is in the details
or is it the basics?

yea march is the best bet. a supra would be interesting to say the least, you could spend your time chasing down the planes on short final :runaway:
