Today Infiniti introduced their all new EX35.* Infiniti wants you to think of it as a baby-FX: it will be priced in the $35k range and will feature a 290hp VQ35HR derived 3.5L V6 as well as Nissan's legendary ATTESA ET-S All Wheel Drive system standard... but I'd say there's more value than that here...<!--more-->

For one thing, the car features a Lane Departure Warning System, which- when enabled- will detect when the car is leaving its lane and use the brakes to keep you in your lane. Useful if you fall asleep behind the wheel. But that's not all: the car doesn't just feature a rear-view camera. It has cameras on all sides of the car. Why you ask? Simple: the car will present to you a composite birds eye view of your car and its surroundings to help you park. Useful. Even if you're wide awake.

The list goes on. The paint is self healing to fine scratches. Lets say you're opening the door to your brand new ride and you scratch the inside of your door handle. No problem. In a few days it'll be gone. Then there's the cruise control. It offers preview braking to brake for you if necessary. And the sound system offers 9 gigabytes of storage with a compact flash card slot...

But these are all details. Let's talk basics. The car rides on Infiniti's highly acclaimed FR-L platform, which you can think of as a new generation* FM platform, as it is also utilized on the FX, M, G coupe, and G sedan. The engine is based on the VQ35HR, providing "creamlike" (according to the BBC's 5th gear) power straight to 7500rpm. The transmission is an automatic with 5 forward gears and 1 reverse. But, it also features a DS sport mode with downshift rev matching and adaptive control. That means the car will hold gears for you through the apex of the turn, and should you down shift- it'll be smooth.

Almost all of these features are exclusive to the EX (if not the entry-luxury SUV market as a whole). So, although Infiniti wants you to think of the EX as a baby FX, until a new FX comes, this is the SUV to watch in the Infiniti lineup...
