What a week for Toyota enthusiasts. Dreams do come true.... and today we have big news for the Toyota camp. Toyota themselves have announced that the JDM Toyota Blade (think: Japanese version of the Corolla) will now be offered with a 3.5L V6 producing 280 horsepower...

And what's more, the new model is far more than just a v6 transplant. They also upgraded the brakes to disc all around and, interestingly enough, mated the engine to a 6 speed ECT (performance oriented) automatic transmission, with paddle shifting- with a 6 speed manual remaining standard.

But that's not all: Toyota also announced that the car will feature an optional radar based cruise control, that will brake for traffic... and they noted that the car's exhaust is compliant with recent Japanese policies suggesting car manufacturers reduce emissions by 75%.

Pricing has been released at 2.77mln yen for the base mdoel and 3.23mln yen for the "Master G" model, both of which feature the new V6 powerplant. These prices amount to $23,300 and $27,200 respectively, which isn't bad considering you're also getting xenon projector headlights and alcantara suede seats.
What does this mean for the USDM? Well, with Toyota being the manufacturer of the year for SEMA this year, and their plans on dropping the new Corolla there, I now think it's very possible -if not probable- that we'll see a V6 Corolla stateside.

With the Scion, a V6 Corolla, the IS-F,and the LF-A... the only thing Toyota will really be missing is a sports coupe in the $30k range, assuming they do resurrect the AE86 for under $20k. Credit must be given where its due: Toyota's definitely bringing their A game to all segments. What a time to be an enthusiast.
