Motortrend is reporting that Dodge's SRT group is reducing their power output goal for the new SRT4 (previously reported on here) from 300hp to 285hp, with 265lb-ft of torque. The power of the turbocharged 2.4L 4 Cylinder Chrysler engine was reduced in an effort to refine the power delivery. That same goal also lead Dodge's SRT group to modify the transmission position to reduce the angle of the half shafts, as well as install a torque management system for 1st and 2nd gears, all to reduce the effects of torque steer. In addition, the suspension setup is being modified to better* keep the car planted via its factory 19" wheels.
Word has it that the new SRT4 will debut later this year or earlier next year at a higher price than the last- as much as $25,000- but still thousands less than the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution and Subaru WRX STi.
