As of now, about one out of every five of the cars Toyota sells are hybrids. Toyota's North American Chief, Jim Press, recently commented that "eventually, everything will be hybrid". Of course, "eventually" is a really long time, but it seems likely that in less than 10 years, more than half of the cars they sell will be hybrid. It probably won't be too much longer before Press's prediction comes true and all Toyotas are hybrids. However, what will that mean for sports cars? Are their days numbered? At the moment Toyota offers only one coupe in the USA, the Scion TC, so it might be conceivable that at some point they no longer offer sporting cars of any kind.... However, they are planning on building a Lexus supercar as well as a sports model of the Lexus IS, suggesting that maybe they feel the days of the sports cars are not over after all. Maybe Toyota intends on making hybrid sports cars? Only time will tell how this plays out; in the mean time feel free to chime in with your thoughts...
