So today I did something I never done before.....
VI_ZUKI if you can teach me how to drag race on a motorcycle it would be great.
So at a stand still, right had on the brake, left hand on the clutch. With my left foot and clicked the gear box down into first. I have dragged race cars before and pulling Gs in my Mustang made me nervous, but this is the first time I will try and push my bike to its limits.
The man at the tree was genrous enough to let me have a solo run without the timer.
With my right hand I engaged the front brake and eased the throttle while letting off the clutch. Just like text book the back tires started to spin, slow at first, then faster and faster. It was my first bike burn out and I copied the other motorcyle racers that ran earlier by rocking the rear tires side to side to get all the tires warmed up.
I lined up at the tree and it seemed like the whole world was watching me through my helmet. I had no formal instruction on what to do when drag racing a bike. My first thoughts where....
1) Body Position - Leaned forward all the way on your toes
2) Arms tucked in
3) Head down and up looking through the wind screen.
My first thoughts were, "Ahhh it can't be bad, its only a 650cc, plus its just a V-Twin. I saw a girl run her CBR 1000 earlier..... this can't be bad..... this can't be bad........"
The tree lit up like a light show and I anticipated the green. I eased off the clutch and rolled the throttle slowly.....
1st Gear - rolling out of the box I waited for what seemed like an eternity before I fully engaged the throttle. I redlined 1st at 45mph, not to shabby, so far so good.
2nd Gear - I did a quick shift into 2nd rolled the throttle with more force this time, then it hit me........... I felt as if someone had grabbed my entire body and was forcing me off the bike. I felt the rear tires wiggle from side to side as they faught to catch traction. My attempt to ease off the throttle wasn't easy because the forces that were trying to throw me off the bike was also forcing me to keep the throttle open.... Frack It........ Clutch in, one click up, clutch out......
3rd Gear - Try as I may, I wasn't able to control the throttle, it seemed almost impossible to balance the power of the G force and my death grip on the gas. I didn't know how fast I was going, I just knew that I could not make out the world immediately surrounding me, everything just started to blend in together. The world became a blur, all except the 1/4 mile marker that seemed to stand still in the distance....... More power Scotty.... MORE POWER!!!!!!!!!!
4th Gear - I don't know how fast I was going, or exactly how I managed to stay on the bike. It was almost like the bike was still trying to run away from me. The 1/4 mile marker still looked too far to reach and I didn't think I could hold on any longer..... Frack it.... I gunned 4th to the 1/8 mile marker before I clutched in and let off the throttle...... I never felt my heart beat so fast before. My senses were still at the start point and hadn't made it back to me yet. I finished the last part of the 1/4 in a neutral roll and stepped into the time box..... I got my ticket.... Looked at the 1/4 mile time only and threw it away.......
13.5...... 13.5 and I let off in the 1/8? How fast would I have gone if I would have stayed in it.... would I be alive today to tell the story if I had....?
I'm at home now...... watching Family Guy and drinking my Guiness....... I don't think I'm going to take the bike to work tommorow..... She scares me..... That little 650 scares me..... SHE'S EVIL!!!!!
