World Car Fans brings us the goodies today: The new Nissan Z was spotted on the streets in Europe, being chased by a Porsche Cayman S and a current-generation 350Z...

Although the car pictured here doesn't look like it's revealing very much, a closer look unveils that this car is in fact a new Z prototype: the brakes appear to be borrowed from the new Infiniti G37 coupe- with massive 14" rotors griped by 4 piston Akebono fixed calipers up front and slightly smaller 2 piston fixed calipers out back. Their positioning suggests that the new Z will also borrow the G37's suspension geometry, which improves already excellent turn in and provides additional stability while minimizing steering kickback at speed.

The big question is what's under the hood? Although we can't say for sure, we would expect it to be a slightly tuned version of the G37's VQ37VHR...probably outputting something in the area of 340hp, give or take.
With it's lighter weight, the engine, suspension, and platform improvments should add up to a potent car. When we consider that the new Z is likely to remain a sub-$30k car and that Nissan is comparing its driving dynamics with the Porsche Cayman (arguably a more dynamic car than even the 911 Carrera), we can't help but see a car that will continue to be highly respected- even by those who may not be fans.

We look for the new car- possibly named 370Z- to be unveiled as early as this fall at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show, along side Nissan's highly anticipated GT-R.
