Now I know having a sleeper set up is cool to have... But this is pretty Extreme.

this could only work on a rear engine car...:thinking:would there even be enough space:dunno:

There is a company called STS turbo that makes a sleeper turbo set up like that for the Pontiac GTO and the vettes. The turbo is in the back of the vehicle because there is no room in the engine bay. SQUIRES TURBO SYSTEM. The kits are pretty much universal.

That will work for ny set up actually the question is lag but I've seen this done on Supras 240sx and other imports..it also allows the turbo to be in a cooler spot than in the engine bay. Ive never seen this done or heard of it done here but this is a common mod that some like to do just to keep things out of the way.:) but exhaust pressure is also a factor I'm assuming but not un heard of Darkside.

thats a hole lott of pipeing to run all the way to the intake....

I have seen this setup done before but not like this... mean welded the turbo on the muffler... :dunno: :dunno: its just look carzy... aka insane...

the only concept i don't like about the sleeper kits is that you use too much piping for the setup. plus its under the car which i kinda hate as well.

^^^ but here it would be a problem up there not so much with smooth perfectroads..but turbo cooling would be so much better in that loacation rather than fighting engine and turbo temps to be cool..also you might use more oil or a bigger pan to get that oil so the engine doesn't starve itself...either way its a cool concept none the less.

i read an article about this a while back where they put a rear mounted turbo kit on a integra type r... all the reviews on it were pretty good... they said they were afraid of turbo lag but during the tests the driver commented that boost came on as normal as a front mounted turbo kit... there was also the issue of cooling... where, on a normal turbo charged vehicle you would need a intercooler to cool down the air but at the same time you loose a bit of pressure... on the rear mounted type R an intercooler was not necessary because of the long piping that ran through the bottom of the vehicle the air cooled naturally before it got to the intake manifold, so u can see y the boost response wasnt as bad as expected...

ummmmm i'm failing to see how that turbo setup would function. with the turbine inlet and the turbine outlet both welded to the same thing wouldnt the exhaust just bypass the turbo and not make it spin??????????? you have to force exhaust pressure through the turbo in order to spool it. maybe its just me but i dont see how that setup would work:dunno:

Well VR4 made a comment but hmmm..what are you talking about you've seen this set up before so what makes you clueless as for cooling
thats what I ment being under the car the air cooling the hot charged air towards the intake and cooling of the turbo makes for a sweet set up...it depends on how the have baffles set up in the exhaust canister that would make the world of difference on charge spinning the turbo so maybe thats how they got it to spin the turbo.

regular exhaust piping is attatched to the hot side of the turbo, piping is routed from the cold side all the way to the Intake manifold... Im guessing that the attatchment to the hot side from the exhaust piping would kinda look the same as the outlet of the cold side... intake is placed same as normal and exhaust outlet from hotside of turbo is routed to regular place in rear bumper... thats my guess... :dunno::dunno:

ok let me go over this again since noone seemed to understand. the downpipe turbine inlet and wastegate are all attached to the same muffler........ the downpipe is actually in front of the turbine inlet. ummmm im not a physics professor but wouldnt putting the same exhaust flow up the downpipe as you are putting in the turbine inlet be a little counter productive???? its not going to spin. now if the muffler was seperated in the middle, with the turbine inlet seeing the flow and the downpipe and wastegate dumping into the rear chamber to go out the exhast it would work. so look again and tell me how it works.

just for the record i have seen many rearmounted turbo kits. the first ones produced were for the gto and corvette. i say look at that setup closely and you will see that i am probably the only one on here thats got a clue.
oh yeah 92vr4 your a cracker. not even a ritz but those cheap saltines in the foil packs.
