Shelby Automobiles, Inc., has released the first official details on the company's latest Mustang iteration.<!--more-->

To get a Super Snake GT500, you essentially need a Shelby GT 500 (approx ,$40,930). Add another $28,000 for GT500 Super Snake upgrade. So the question is: is all that cash that worth it for a Mustang?

Well, a Super Snake will at minimum have 600 horsepower with the ability to go to 725-horsepower-for a significantly higher price of course. Oh and the factory warranty becomes void after the 725 horses get added. Other upgrades include the Shelby Supercharger, a cold air intake, Shelby/Baer 6-piston caliper brakes, a Shelby short throw shifter, an Eibach coil-over suspension, sway bars, and a Borla cat-back exhaust.

Before you get too excited, it is worth noting that the Super Snake doesn't address the Mustang's weight problem, instead the approach involves using a beefier suspension, more power and better brakes.

So again is it worth it. That, I leave up to you.

you really must love the mustang for what it is to get the value from this.
at $70k+, this car will not outperform a stock C6 Z06..and it probably wont come too close either except maybe in a straight line. and thats a big maybe.

then bearing in mind that this is essentially a $30k mustang GT with $40k of work/options... you should also consider what kind of car you'd get from putting $40k into an Evo, STi, 350Z. In a few months.... it could get compared to putting an extra $20k or so into an IS-F, M3, GT-R, etc. You see where I'm going with this. Every car I mentioned above weighs 500+lbs less than this. That's a lot. Every car mentioned above will outhandle a mustang stock, with no problems - Car & Driver even recorded a quicker laptime at Virginia Int'l Raceway with the Cobalt SS vs the Mustang GT!

Does this mean its a bad car? definitely not. Its great to see they at least offer it. But at the same time, to be sure, it gets back to what I was saying earlier- you really have to love it for what it is to see the value here.
