Apparently a Toyota technician, Soichiro Okudaira, commented in an interview with Motor Authority that the Auris (Corolla in these parts of the world) could fit any motor from a 1.4L 4cyl engine to a 3.5L V6. What's more, he went on to add that Toyota is considering releasing such a V6 powered car, with All Wheel Drive.

Although AWD Corollas are nothing new for Toyota, V6 Corollas are- especially outside of Japan. Is Toyota gearing up to go head to head with the WRX, SRT4s, and the rest of the crowd? As of now, the new Corolla is scheduled to debut later this year here in the US. All we can do is wait and see.

I wouldn't hold my breath... but in the past the Japanese did have economy cars with 4cyl turbo + AWD... so maybe its posible.. but personally I'm thinking it's wishful thinking. Toyota is highly conservative in the performance arena.. at least up to this point and I dont see that changing (sans the Lexus-F line and the new Toyota Coupe)
