ok ok story time........

we were heading to the beach out on east end. the weather was good- the sky was pretty clear save a cloud or two, but thankfully the road was very dry and warm. so the tires were sticking pretty well. to top things off, among the four cars, we had all the drinks we needed to chill at the beach and bust a good lime for an hour or two.

i had come up on small four door in front of me, wallowing up the road with no particular speed. ready to pass him, i queued up 2nd gear at maybe 30mph. from a few car lengths back i pinned the throttle. the green lights started to flash as max torque hit. at about that time i crossed the dashed yellow line to begin the (legal) pass. in about two seconds i was passing 50mph, much more speed than i needed, but i didn't want to waste any time in a lane ordinarily used for opposing traffic...

but then, midway into the pass, for no apparent reason, the driver of the other car moved into the lane i was already in. the same lane i was passing him in.

so in an instant i started doing the math: my car weighed more than his, i had more drive wheels, more tire on the road, more speed and, since momentum is proportional with the square of my velocity, a lot more momentum...

but before i could register the rest of the thought- that a hit like that could be catastrophic nonetheless, i was past him. at some point in the pass i lifted, but as soon as i saw him veering, i had apparently floored it again.

this took place at the end of the passing zone, which ended because a corner followed. it wasn't a problem though, heading into the turn i had plenty of space to slow. to be safe though, i kept my distance from him...

the pass put me behind reyrey (wrx) who was behind deo (altima se-r)

shortly thereafter, as we made our way east around some winding turns, a man on a scooter pulled up behind me. i'm not sure how much time he spent behind me. i saw him for a short period and as soon as i had the chance, slowed to let him pass. as he passed though, he seemed more interested in me than driving. i then saw that the man was riding an old scooter that looked like it had seen better days. he wore a simple helmet covering only the top of his head, with the strap undone, uselessly tied behind his neck.

as we drove he continued to look backward at me. at one point he rode the double yellow line. i wondered if he was going to pull out a cell phone or something to take pictures of me...

i didn't bite; i stayed back- even though we were all moving east at a good pace. but this man continued to look back and ride forward, fall back and repeat. eventually though, he got the message and moved on, passing reyrey and, after a bit of time, passing de o as well.

then i noticed that he was prompting us. he continued to look back, and even though we were driving with a reasonably quick (but not fast) pace, he kept looking back...

for a couple turns, we obliged. somewhat. from where i was positioned, i could see that de o wasn't going "all in" by any means- he looked to be lifting much earlier than he needed to and generally not pressing the affair.

the man on the scooter, however, had a different mindset. i would liken it to super mario kart. his bike would hop as he got into the turns as if he had just hit the L or R buttons and was trying to stabilize himself into maybe a light drift. i'm not sure if it was a death wish or sheer ignorance, but after each and every turn his bike would wobble and he would continue to look backward.

by my estimates either de o, or reyrey's machines could have handled him. we were moving with very good speed, don't get me wrong, but he was near his limits.

as for me, the S would have been more than adequate. i think it was best that i wasn't at point- although it was frustrating for me. to be honest though, my frustration didnt really stem from the fact that i wasn't at lead as much as the fact that it was a hopped up scooter and not something more interesting... like a gsxr...

Umm seems like you all had some situation incounters lol..well I hope your just venting about all this cause umm I don't think those people That you all are addressing are going to read this lol :rofl::dunno: so might be in best intrest to write a column in the news paper about it get the word out there cause I don't think those people are going to ever get that point across.
