KTM – Europe’s second largest motorcycle producer – presented the prototype of a new lightweight sports car at the Geneva Motor Show: the X-Bow<!--more-->
<strong>The Now:</strong>
The compact, two-seater will have a carbon fibre chassis and a modern four-cylinder FSI turbo engine from Audi. The Audi/VW 2.0 TFSI produces 220 hp. Given a weight of approximately 700Kg (approx 1540lbs), acceleration from 0-60 in 3.9 seconds is expected to be attainable.

Originally, KTM’s intention was to have Dallara produce a pilot series of 100 units, but with firm orders for 600 cars coming in the last two months, production will now be handled by Magna Steyr Fahrzeugtechnik beginning early 2008. The first customer deliveries are expected in February. The aim is to reach an annual production of 1000 units as soon as possible.

Plans still call for the production of the first 100 units as an exclusive special series with a potential 55k as the asking price.

<strong>Going Forward: </strong>
KTM isn't waiting for rivals Ariel and Caterham to catch up to its track day special X-Bow racer. As the first X-Bow series prepares for sale, KTM is already planning a more powerful version using the 2.0 TFSI engine found in the Audi S3. That motor makes 265 hp in the S3 thanks to larger injectors and intercoolers, but is expected to be configured for 280 hp in the X-Bow.
