PR has dynojet and probably other kinds as well. STX has none. STT has none.

we dont just need a dyno, we need advanced alignment, tire mounting/wheel balancing...
who would do all of that? with all top tier equipment? anything less would be a waste...
ive debated getting into it and did the math. a dyno wouldnt exactly print cash but it would do ok. its a feasible idea... if done properly.
not sure what the demand is really like here and if a lot of people would pay a premium for that kind of stuff...

Thats what i'm lookin into what kinda feed back I would get .. Dyno would be good an bad at the same time because NOBODY wants anyone to see what they have or what power they car made.. so it would be a challenge....
I'm in the process of talkin to this guy about getting ah dyno but I gotta weight my options...
Another thing would be LOCATION...

Dumping money into something like ah dyno an trying to make back your money would be challenging .. because it STX..... Dyno is not cheap at all...

yeah like anything else in this kind of business, lots of issues...i mean, its doable, but a serious effort if it is to be done properly...

Hey cuz if you can be or can proove to people your work would be confidential and not like our tower here. It can work, But on the other hand we dont know for sure what the (DIRECTION) of the track is yet. So just sit back see what the scamp them will do. LOL

Just put N/T on your window and get one of your crew to get the time slip and tear off both copies of your half, then you are covered. It is not rocket science.

buh if you geh someone that can tune a car good then a dyno is priceless. the dyno I went to in fl was a awd dyno. anyway this guy took a twin turbo 350z from 357 hp to 5 and change.

My comment was directed at the dig against the people in the tower at the track. Vince, Hector and Tano come in on their time off and set up the track and don't get paid. Ragging on them is uncalled for.
As far as the dyno, absolutely, it is a great tool. I had the motor in the Road Runner run in on an engine dyno up in the states before being shipped down here. Served several purposes. It got the rings seated in the presence of the engine builder. It was also a good check for leaks etc. Most importantly the air fuel mixtures were dialed in.
I am not belittling the use of a dyno at all. I would put all of our cars on a chassis dyno if there was one here on St. Croix. If you can get even 10 more HP and more importantly get your mixture dialed in right so you are not too lean and burning bits or too rich washing down the cylinder walls a dyno session will pay for itself quickly. As an alternative I am considering when money allows getting a LM-2 or similar and using that to help tune up our vehicles.
A tune up that went from 357 to 500+ hp was definitely off to start with. It is most certainly true that a dyno is a fast track to sorting out a combo in that situation.

A dyno shop would be an investment and a half with an uncertain return. There are a few goood tuners that I know, but only one that I trust with my car. He is about a good 8 hour drive from where I'm at.
I know a tech school that teaches you how to tune.... Tuition is around 18,000 for a 16 week program.
And I think the cheapest dynojet was like $12,000 for one that can be trailered......
Looks like I might be taking the Stang to PR or just doing a really good lasting tune in the states before I bring the stang down. If only they had a ferry to go to PR with your car......

actually me and a couple of folks are thinking bout it so there might be one soon don't know about anyone else doing it but they start at about 35 grand to 85 grand...so its very possible and the investment will pay for itself for sure...any where from 100 bucks for 5 runs...is what I'd charge..which is about right. Anywhere from next year actually. Wheel alignment well we have some pretty good places...target is probably the best on island to tell you the truth....but I see where tekk is coming from.

This is very true where engine break in would be better handled with a dyno than actual driving..anyone ever wondered the best way to break in an engine..its on a dyno and its not just driving under a set RPM its actually intervals from low rpm...cool down.....mid rpm......cool down to high rpm....and this all can be done within the first 100 miles with a dyno and dyno oil rather than 500-1000 miles like most say..aswell as stated above for valve seating.....

Well I had ah Mini Meetin with ah friend tonite an we discuss alot of things about ah dyno/shop... an I think if you put more taught/planning into it .. It can happend...
Getting ah dyno is not just buying an hooking up an put cars on there.. its alot of work an time behind it too... An know how to tune an run ah dyno..

The truth hurts.
If your car makes a very impressive pass the whole island knows what time you ran. I hate that shit.

Thats why you hold brakes from the 1/8 an do 12.3 lol.... ;)
Also thats the trust we have in STX ppl...lol... When you have ah dyno here an customers trusting you with the HP they car makes.. its gonna be hard to get ppl in to dyno an they trusting the shop to keep the info confidential.... I guess the shop have to be professional about doing business!!

when I went track. ugh I sucked so hard. I don't even want to think about it. I bogged every launch I did

Bogg with AWD??? What RPMs did you launch at?

+1 what RPM's did you launch at....anything less than 5 and your probably gona bogg but I don't know when you spool up either so or your redline to be exact.

damn! thas a launch!
I launched at like 4k I was afraid for my transfer case. it's a huge weak spot in my drivetrain. ended up doin I think 9 somethin to the 1/8. then my intake pipe blew off, then they closed track. then I met streetrx goin down the highway to container port. where I did a beautiful launch against that civic. I guess all the lights and shot made me nervous.

How does an AWD dyno adjust for different wheelbase cars?

True dat! You can have a thousand hp and still lose to a less powerful car. I think a dyno/performance shop on STX is a good idea, an don't for get STT AN STJ. They will be making the trek to get their car's hooked up also, the track/street racers in the VI will have to stop being paranoid about other people knowing what they have under the hood, and learn to rely on their driving skills and other car geometries to win their races......;)

The AWD dyno has ah pretty hugh wheels an Awd cars are not that far off when it comes to wheelbase..... Meaning 92vr4 an talon... or even EVO scooby... You just have to make sure you strap them down pretty good..
VIZuki
11-18-2008, 12:19 AM
+1 but most dynos I've seen are on tracks for that same reason for adjustmant...but yeah most wheelbase are close..that and the wheel pads are pretty wide and long anyways about 2-3 feet...most cars contact patch is only a foot...maybe

Thanks, tracks make sense. After all, while Talons and Subarus are similar size there are also Range Rovers (AWD since they came out in 1970) certain Volvos, even some minivans etc that might need to be dynoed. I think in California they actually do the emissions on a dyno. I've only used a single roller Dynojet on our MG up in the states, that is the only one I have seen in person. Yes, those rollers are big, even on a single roller style. Are you saying they are even bigger on an AWD dyno?
An AWD dyno must be considerably more money than a single roller but, as mentioned more versatile.
Somewhere I have seen a video on youtube of a 32 Ford Coupe with a supercharged Chevy or Ford V8 in it on one of those trailerable dynos, the kind that are about 3-4 feet off the ground. When they strapped it down the straps were directly in the exhaust blast and BURNED THROUGH while doing the pull. Fortunately he got it stopped, since the car is still stationary even if the wheels are not it probably just bogged the motor. Still, it would be a case of time to change your armor. I can't find it in my bookmarks, sorry.
There is definitely more to getting your car down the track than just what the engine puts out, as was stated. My car is at that stage where playing with the chassis is what is needed, not more power. Still, a person in business would be wise to be circumspect if requested. The track is a public event with spectators, different situation.
I suspect you would definitely get at least the St. Thomas St. John cars, and maybe even some down island cars.
