Project Tampa Terror ae86/3tc turbo finally begins

[3tc power]

This project has been going on for a few years now. It is taking long because of me not having the time i want to spend on my ride. haha being the only engineer at my job that do what i do has it's downfalls i guess :rolleyes: anyways back to the car :ugh: . Here is my ford 8.8 shortened down for my 84 ae86. now i tried to keep it as simple as i can, so what i did for the rear end to fit is i only cut the driver side of the ford rearend to the same length as the passenger side. then when we finished cutting and welding, we just went to the junk yard and got another 8.8 passenger side axle to use on the driver's side of the rearend. the rear end i used is from a ford explorer eddie bower with disc brake, 373 gears and posi.

As you can see the 15x8 fits really well with the 5.5 backspace.

Those are Welds Draglites Race wheels right? I used to use em on my Stang... 15x10 w/ 28x11.5 slicks until changing the wheels out at the track and stuff just became such chore that I switched to Mickey Thompson Drag Radials 305/35/18..... I can't really launch that hard on them like the slicks but they get the job done!

Leroy(spragga) is my cousin sadly:dunno::rofl: but he knows about my on going project, and he has been pressing mr to get it done. actually i and was the contact that got him the trueno bumper and TRD coupe wing and other stuff for his ride. all i will say is that his car is very capable of running low 11's high 10's with the setup he has. he just need to learn how to drive that thing and have someone tune it good.

well right now i working on getting the engine bay stripped of its paint so i can paint it and put the motor in. the first picture show how the car was sitting before i started stripping it. oh and i got really lazy and i just put all the stuff thats unused in the back of the car :dunno:

by the way! the tranny is a W58 from a 84 efi celica. they are good for 600 to 700hp

Well i started taking everything out, and man i hate it when you don't really notice how bad something is until you pay attention to it. below you will see what happens when you don't use the the plastic battery tray when the battery is leaking acid. oh well i will be sanding it down so screw it :squint:

here is another thing i really hated. look at this crossmember!!! the dillhole who i bought the rolla from welded a set of mounts to the crossmember and now i need to get a replacement one. i will also be getting rid of the busted p/s rack n pinion.

there is 2 rollas that will be built with 3sgte power plants but i was told to say no more about them so :dunno: yes it will be streetable for now.

well the cressida is a very popular choice for drifters around here. actually you can you the mk3 supra 87-91 lsd rearend with a few mods. yes there is welding involved.

well I am going to put the Supra diff in the cressida .. But there is no welding.. all i have to do is swap the rear plate from each DIFF .. an make ah mount to hold the front part of the DIFF up.. thats it.. the only welding is the making of the mounts.. not to the subframe....

Been done before many times also have picture to show..

The only person who I know would do ah 3sgte motor is ICEMAN JR.. lol

OK! well i'm back and now i'm working on getting the engine bay and front wheel wells stripped of its paint. looking at how these car were built, i know i'm in for a battle. first i will start with the battery tray.....man this thing is rough looking. :mad:

now we know what will happen if you let battery acid sit on metal long enough :eek: well as you can see in the picture i'm drilling out the stamped welds that holds the tray in place.

Finally after 30 minutes of playing with this POS...i got it off. :hsd:

With the tray out of my way i can start stripping the engine bay paint.

this is all i used for the paint..this stuff is top of the line shit! there is now odor at all and unllike the other spray can strippers you can just constantly keep spraying without having to run awy from fumes. i recommend this to anyone.
NOTE: please don't get this stuff on your skin..

well its time to start applying paint stripper to the engine bay. wow after 10 minutes or so after applying the stripper this is whats left.

the fire wall was bare metal in minutes but other parts needed heavier coats. so while a wait for the stripper to do its job, i went ahead and started cleaning the tranny. now i know you remember what it looked like.

i used the 80 and 120 grit sandpaper wheels for the drills for all the tough spots. i think it came out pretty good for the lack of tools i had.

yeah man! :rofl: really and trully the reason for going to the metal is so i can seal the metal with fresh sealer so it never rust on me. as old as the car is it needs all the attention i can give it hehe. i would hate to spend all this money and find out the car have cancer in unreachable places.

looks good to me everything is red eve nthe steering shaft lol...is that a special paint your using for the engine bay to withstand heat or is it the same as the body paint..if I ever paint my engine bay in the coming years iwant to use the paint thats on the lower half or the side skirts on cars that high density paint...just for added protection....

this is a toyota red from an mk4 supra called renaissance red code(3L2). it no special paint, since i will be using a blanket for my turbo i'm not really worried about the temp in the engine bay. the outside is what you need to worry about since the sun has deadly UV rays that kills paint. i'm not worried about the steering shaft because it will com out as well.

ok i just wanted to bump the project that i'm suppose to be spending more time on, but i have been slackin a bit. well i had to send my short block to my buddies shop to degree my cam for me. well i can't do it since i sold all my tools when i moved to an apartment few years back. anywho here is just a few pics of the assembled short block with out the timing chain cover on it. i will have more pictures hopefully sunday when i start stripping the interior out.
